Are Parents Best Teachers?

Have you ever asked yourself why there are so many adults living their lives as if they had no clue of what their doing? The way I see it their dysfunctional conducts stem from their childhood, from the mediocre upbringing given by their parents. The ones that should undoubtedly be their lives’ best teacher.

We have currently been overwhelmed by a myriad of all sort of terrible news on TV everyday. Crazy things have been taking place all over the world day in day out. From Asia we hear of lunatics attaching explosives artifacts to their bodies and going out and about on a killing spree. In Europe a slew of people are hooked to some kind of chemical substance, prostitution and so on. Everyday Americans turn on their TVs to find out that another pedophile has been put in behind bars. And, last but not least, our beloved Brazil that experience pretty much all the reported and much more nonstop.

After doing a research on the offenders, authorities usually find one thing in common, the majority of them come from dysfunctional families that have failed or didn’t even try to instill in them the right values, build in them a strong character so they could learn how to live in society properly. In years past, parents used to make it their sole priority to give their offspring a proper upbringing. They committed themselves more to raising responsible and mature adults. Way back when kids weren’t as insolent as they are nowadays with their teachers in school because the best teacher at home, their parents, held them on a “shorter leash”. Most of the parents nowadays are losing the battle for their kids, they are permitting the everyday problems of life wear them out and end up forgetting about their child education. They don’t take their time to learn more about their kids’ feelings, emotions, and uncertainties. They let them learn as they go and don’t step up to the plate and take stock of their lives. As a result we see lots of ungoverned adults out their committing all sort of nasty crimes.

In conclusion, had these entire people upbringing not been overlooked, we would probably be facing fewer hardships in our society nowadays. It’s common knowledge that education builds character, builds a citizen, and even though schools, universities and all official institutions play a great role in it, the base, the root of everything starts at home, with the teacher of teachers, the parents.
